It is a nice laptop, buy it. Mine is a bit higher-end, but it is a very well-made laptop.

If you know a liveCD that has PCMCIA Audio support built in I can test it for you. I am in between rebuilds on my laptop so no linux currently installed.

DVD+R9 is just another word for dual layer (+R DL anyway). So, a 2.4x DL drive for a notebook isn't too bad.
