The search function is your friend. Rob is correct, although in most things no one will notice the difference.
There still aren't any -good- comparative reviews. Everything I see has a different CPU speed on one, or totally different memory, or a vastly different video card or something. I'd be happy with some Centrino platform with 2GHz...
SATA is still worthless on most drives, only a few actually ever even burst to the SATA maximum. Hopefully all the promised new 7200RPM drives for laptops show up this year finally.
Expresscard allows for a USB2 or PCIe interface (I think), but I don't know what they are using in this Asus unit. It has a decent amount of bandwidth to it, but I've not seen any cards you can buy yet.
Well, Sonoma doesn't have much to do with it. It is that the top of the line Dothan still only has a 533MHz bus. Until they change that, it won't really be able to take advantage of higher-bandwidth memory.
I'm lost, what are you asking? Just get a laptop that runs at 1400x1050. Then perhaps increase the DPI setting in windows. I don't find it too small on my 14" laptop anyway. Games and things that run full-screen you can run in...
16x drive doesn't limit your choice. All major brands make 16x drives right now... It may limit your choice if you want an all-in-one package I guess. But if you buy a decent enclosure and then put a drive in it, you can get anything...
Well, neither is as fast as your desktop. You'd need a Pentium-M that is about the same clockspeed to catch up CPU-wise, and even a Mobility X700 is 'only' as fast as a desktop 9700 Pro part... Still the 8240 looks pretty nice to me....
Ahh, the 6600 stuff I saw was on a 1.8GHz version though... But yeah it does still seem like the X700 is a bit faster. However in benchmarks they don't seem too much different, I doubt most people would be able to tell. I still...
No noticeable differences in speed (there are some other threads on this buried somewhere). Just get whatever you want, although if you happen to run linux nvidia tends to have better 3D support.
