Good news... gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.10-r5 and -r6, just released, both support the Promise controller in the 9860.
Congrats, make sure you patch the 2.6.10 kernel with the latest libata-dev patch when installing.
Minimal..should be no difference.

fyi - pata is also supported in my livecd does anyone have a high-speed server i can upload my livecd iso to? it's only about 50 mb, but my 30 K/s upsteam will buckle after 2 people try to download it lemme know, thanks
