I'm currently using the Seagate 5400.3 100GB drive. Not much faster than my old WD 5400 60GB drive, but it is less noisy. I actually only needed a little more storage. I found mine on eBay for $60 shipped.

I had it maxxed on my laptop as well, 5400 60GB drive. Upgrade to 2GB RAM and run some scans for trojans. Also I noticed that the recent version of aol seems to really crap on PCs and had to uninstall it a few ties to resolve similar...

Dell doesn't care who the owner is. All they care about is the service tag and matching specs of the laptop when it's serviced. Matching specs matter for warranty coverage for qualifying upgrade/original parts.

I didn't backup my bios, it may very well be your original version (it was called original.rom) .
