Nice review and great pics. It's definitely better looking than I initially thought. It is disappointing about the battery life though. In another review, it seems like better battery life was achieved though. Then again, everyone has a...
It depends on what you mean by multitask. As well, what type of engineering are you going to be going into? I know my WSXGA screen has served me well through my first year of computer engineering. Personally, I'm hooked on the screen...

Definitely a good choice. I still can't stomach the looks for the HEL80. Sure it may not be the only reason for buying a laptop, but aesthetics definitely play some sort of role. Nice looking system you've specc'd out there in your sig.
Yeah, they're pretty much identical. The HGL30 definitely looks better than the HEL80, but I still dont' think it's in the same league as the W3J when it comes to looks. The bezel/back of the screen still looks... iffy.
Quanta and Compal are first and second respectively. Quanta has like 50% of Dell's orders for notebooks.
Oh yeah, ZGold's hit it on the head. The dual core system will be faster. That's not the mention the Go 7600 is already faster than the X700.
You'll have to take a look and see what your laptop supports.
