It totally depends on what you want to do with your laptop. If you value desktop space, I'd definitely get a higher resolution screen. I can't live without WSXGA anymore.
Only difference would be that the W3J has a VGA port compared to the DVI of the macbook pro. Image quality could be a little degraded compared to using the DVI connection, but it's definitely doable.

Seems to me that ASUS would probably make a higher profit margin if they sold it themselves, instead of selling them to Intel or Apple first... Then again, they probably sell loads more to those companies than they do themselves.

I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. It's got solid performance for that sized laptop and is pretty cheap to boot. Battery life should be around 3 hours if you were wondering.
