I would recommend the Asus A8 series, or the IBM T60 series with the 14" SXGA screen and the ATI X1400 (More for your mobile work than your gaming)

You could always shut it off and save power. Either use the switch or hotkey on the laptop to turn it off. If your laptop doesn't have one, then you can always disable the hardware in the device manager.
Those figures sound like they're using the optional battery or setting the laptop for battery benchmarking

Does your 8525 have bluetooth? I use my blackjack as a modem via the bluetooth. No cables, less fuss.
