The DVD software is in it's own pack of CDs. However, I just use Media Player Classic. Use your favourite search engine to find it.

I added a 2 GiB memory card to my A8Js with no noticable increase in heat. AFAIK all A8J models come with 1 GiB of DDR2-667.
Yes, both memory slots.
They came off my A8Js very cleanly.
Memory, HD, CPU, and GPU card are all under the same panel IIRC - very accessible.
Keep in mind that the x1700 is basically an x1600 made to use less power. In short Go7700 for performance, X1700 for temperature and battery life.
Thanks very much. I'm on the verge of ordering an nc8430 with the same specs as yours, except the video card. I was a little concerned about the display, but you've helped me decide that this is the way to go.
I've run Mandriva and FreeBSD 64-bit editions on my ASUS Z80k (aka A2K) without problems.
I'm running a 64-bit OS now ... FreeBSD 5.4 for AMD64. Having the extra registers makes a big difference. Certain Linux distributions also support 64 bit.
