I ran into this exact same issue with my FX7 when I tried to install WoW for the first time. A couple things you can try: 1) In addition to downloading the full 1.10 patch, also download the 1.8 patch, and all the incremental patches...

That's what I get when I snap some hasty pictures with my camera phone =). You can even see one of my co-workers in the 2nd picture too!

Test it with a small child first, just to make sure it's safe! Kids are more resilient than laptops =).

Perhaps you need to switch the boot order in the BIOS? That's the first thing that popped into my head.
