Ordinary Graphics cards will not speed up rendering at all, ever. Once you hit the render button the CPU takes over and just passes the information to the Gfx card for display as Bluemonkey said. The Gfx card is just a display device...

I need mine for rendering as well as other stuff so a P-M is really out of the equation for me. Not enough horsepower to do what I need so I'm glad desktop chips are still available.

well $300 bucks extra isn't a great fortune in the grand scheme of things, especially where quadro's are concerned so it's no biggie. I'm getting one as it's my livelihood too. The regular GF4's are ok but they still don't always display...

Tried it a while ago and it was messy and didn't look too good. Interesting concept but flawed execution. You can try it and uninstall if you don't like it as it may have improved since I installed it.
