I've had my 6000d for over a year and have been quite satisfied with it. it's gone from being a portable media player and sofa-based internet machine to pretty much my full time computer. no complaints really whatsoever.... well......
do you use your dvd drive much? I notice significantly more drain when copying a dvd on battery. If you do use it primarily to watch movies, I'd suggest getting dvdidle. It queues the movie to hard disk and therefore uses it a bit...
yeah... there does seem to be a few reports of the intel software causing the dropouts. I'd try that out for sure. Also, have you tried changing the channel that the router broadcasts on? if there are a lot of RF producing...
is it plugged into the power adapter or on battery? When on battery the card is set to default to a lower power setting which reduces the range. that can be modified in the properties for the wireless card by disabling automatic power...

I have no problem with mine and wear contacts or glasses 100% of the time. keep in mind that you will probably be closer to the screen on the 6k than you are on a desktop unit. I also have never seen any sparkles with my samsung...
