I think a better way to make sure you are not getting the old chip would be to find the chip number that you have - 735 or 740 (the numbers that are multiples of 10 are the newer ones..)
True dellbert. That said it is reasonable for one to expect a good product for 2600 dollars. I think comparing to Sony is not as relevant as not having any noticable defects (like LCD darkening around edges, or light emissions)....
