Ahh, try this... ran into it the other day. Make sure you microphone is muted. To test it without going into sound properties, tap on the mic hole with your finger and see if you hear it through the speakers.

yea, you're right. Even sysedit works. Well, I suppose you could still put path statements and such in autoexec.bat. Still... those files were originally intended to load drivers in DOS for *really* old stuff.
