Hi, I've got the D610 with SXGA+ and I have to say it's a fantastic screen, zero dead pixels and very bright. I recommend you the extra resolution, I even lowered the fonts' DPIs to 96.

Hello, I don't find a way to boot it with the 2.6.8 kernel, it gives me a kernel panic when trying to find free memory areas for the ide drives. I'm also unable to boot from a Knoppix or an Auditor CD. Thanks.

I'd suggest neither of the two. An Atheros with AR5004/5006 would be a beeter choice. Get the cheapest from Dell and change it.
