the power supply ac adapter brick is well over a pound if i recall... plus all the packing materials and cables like you mentioned... probably some manuals / disks / etc... it adds up.. Also most peoples (including mine) are 17...
Well by the numbers its about 3 inches wider (biggest difference), an inch deeper, and a little less than a half an inch thicker.... Weight wise its over 3 pounds heavier. All that said this a big laptop, if youve never seen one...
