yeah that happened to me, i got a dead lcd, bought a new cable off ebay, and it fixed it , i was stoked. definitely worth a shot.

i too am interested in this, I am looking for something which will accept the same battery as a c600 or cpt, but will play 3d games such as sims 2 and whatnot, ddr would also be a plus, what kinda video card can go into one of these...

i wouldnt really call that a pos burner, thats the same speed my pc burner is, and i dont think it to be slow at all. its just the nature of the beast there dude

i just saw that pic, and by the looks of it, the only crack is in the epoxy type stuff that holds all the goodies in. if i were you, i would not get rid of the old processor just yet.
