no, the green line is just a faulty lcd screen component somewhere, i think. YOu should have no problems carrying your laptop in any position. Just exchange it, the green line should not be a common probelm
so i have no clue what is benig disscussed currently in the thread, but to answer the original question, I'd say basic specs for a tr1x3d out computer would be:
Athlon FX57 OR Athlon X2 4800+
DFI lan party mobo
4gb of ram (good timing is not horribly important since its AMD)
some WD rapters in RAID
2x 7800GTX OC in SLI
2x DVD-RW drives
ag back to the OP, i think you should buy the parts and build it yourself. For 2000 dollars you can build a much better system yourself.
DFI lan party motherboard - $150
Any ATX case -$50
AMD athlon 64 3500+ - $250
2x1gb value ram - $160
160gb HDD - $80
DVD-RW - $50
geforce 7800GTX OC - $550
thats less than 1400 dollars!
Just add a monitor for $400, windows for 100, and you end up paying 1900
I believe colleges sell XP pro for $5? problem sovled? Or do they sell the "upgrade" version of XP pro? in that case, can you buy a copy of windows 2000 AND a copy of XP pro (for a total of $10), and use the win2000 as the system you are upgrading from? I think that would make it totallly legal

Athlon 64's have built in memory controller, so having good ram speeds doesnt affect performance very much(if at all) compared to intel processors.
Also, i'd say go with san diego if the price is similar (no more than 5 dollars more).
Maybe going with...
