Well, I don't have a MacBook or MBP but I did purchase it for my PowerBook. After an education discount it isn't too much. Better to be safe than sorry.

Apple offers education discounts to almost, if not all, universities, on all of their items. I think the discount is 10%. In the store you have to show ID, online, they don't ask for proof.
