M1710 with the 7900 GTX
Got a 4671 with basic Dell and XP updates. M1710 with the 7900 GTX 2.0 Ghz 2G Ram 60G 7200 HD SB HD Audio
It does offer Gigabit ethernet besides just the option for the GTX. Up to you if that alone justifies the ~300 dollar difference.
br2, I am the same way. All of our 8890's are starting to have that same symptom and what makes it worst, I was out of town the other day and my power supply failed! That was painful.
And a compiler and start coding
One thing I noticed is that in my truck (Yukon) I was getting the low power alerts and had my inverter(Tripp Lite as well) shutting down. We had taken my wife's car (530) the other week on a trip and the inverter worked...
RAID does make a difference, just depends on what you use it for. My compile times and usage of VM's are significantly faster with the two 60 7200's on RAID 0 than what I had with just one (20-30% from my estimates).
RAID 0 on my 8890 has made a HUGE difference on performance when running multiple Virtual Machines. I typically have 2 running along with the host OS (XP host and W2k3 in the VMs). I do not have an official timing on these but compile...
Curious as well...
jnev if you use products like Virtual Server or VMWare, you can never have enough RAM.
