Yes, dirty AC power and static discharges can (and frequently do) kill electronics. For the D900T motherborads, though, heat is your number one enemy. For some odd reason, the Promise RAID controllers can't operate when there's a lot...
I'm not clear on which connectors were snapped off. Can you identify them in the attached photo? If you're concerned about the two connectors to the lower left of the MAGCOM chip, there is some good news -- those connectors are for...
Congrats, Tricky. 'Glad to see you got that bad boy running again. I'm even happier to hear that you managed to perform the RAID chip swap on your own. :-) I've still got two bad motherboards from Ztronics (they're not responsive at...
The original drive is IDE, but it's attached to the Promise RAID controller, not the built-in IDE controller that the CD-ROM is attached to. The Promise RAID controller is a bit funky in that it can accomodate either IDE or SATA,...
It's the Promise controller. I managed to do a chip swap with one scavenged from a dead v5 board, and it's running now. Though the chip was a huge pain to replace, even with a hands-free infrared soldering station. Other options.....

FWIW, I think pcbunker has a lot going on right now. The parts I ordered took a while (about 10 days), but they did arrive. Try emailing him (@yahoo.com) to see what's up?
Were those bad motherboards sourced from Ztronics, RJTech, or someone else?
You can add up to 4 1Gig sticks, but you will only be able to use 2.8Gigs of the memory. It's a hardware limitation of the Intel 915 chipset on these machines, and there's no way around that.
It's a drop-in replacement easily done by end-users, and I'd highly recommend it. Just make sure you have thermal paste so apply it to the CPU and maximize your heatsink's performance.
