This has really degenerated into a pointless PC vs Mac war. Just a note to the original poster, please don't invite arguments like this with a question like "why should I not buy a macbook". To find out what YOU want, go look...
Ok, having done this before, I must say that before you start, make sure that you have plenty of patience and the proper equipment. Try this tutorial: http://guides.pcapex.com/#PCApex%20Paintshop. PM me for questons
Well its your money, so ultimately its up to you, but I'd go for it on one condition. Personally, I need my computer work 24/7 or I'm screwed (I'm a student and I need my notes and I need to be able to do papers, etc.). Because of that,...

I couldn't agree with you more. Dell's pricing is good, sure, but its not so good that I am tempted to carry around the bulky, fugly Inspirons. And when you upgrade to the latitude line, there is a huge price jump because all of a sudden...
Traditionally I have been an AMD fan, so it pains me to say this, but the Turion X2 usually gets womped by the Core 2. Performance differences are something like 10-20% and the Turion doesn't match the Core 2 Duo for power usage either....
