That bandwidth is known as the unbuffered bandwidth. It's the RAWEST of the RAW bandwidths. A google search on it will give you a better idea of what it means.

Based on your temps, it looks like HP is over working the fan to keep the temps down. You should try what the tech said and downgrade the BIOS to an older version.

You might get a tad better performance but not really worth the mod. The Mobilty ATI drivers have the Drivers for it. Just install the latest and enjoy your games. There isn't as big as a difference between drivers for Radeon and FireGL...
The video card makes a difference on battery life. My T60P which has a FireGL V5200 goes through my 9Cell in the time it takes a T60 with a X1400 with a 6 cell does. I notice my Seagate 100gig 7200 drive runs much hotter than a 160gig...
I can't be 100% sure without looking at the machine but the manual seems to imply they are SATA. Was Windows installed when you first got the machine? If it was then you might have to use the recovery discs to reimage the drives. No BIOS...
