You need to press F6 during the XP boot then you must have compatible SATA drivers on a CD or floppy that load in order to get XP to load. - Mike
Could be a defective heatsink. The thermal dissapation is only as good as the heatsink when the fans are working correctly. -Mike
Recommened you vist the hp / compaq website and get the service manual for your laptop. Some can be a real bear to find that last screw etc. The service manual will provide you with sepcific details for dissassembling your model. - Mike
