Keep windows up to date
Some will still get by, but not as bad as some of the computers that I clean up.

In terms of interference, there is no difference between 802.11b or 802.11g.
802.11A does get the benefit of less interference from cordless phones...
Try a different channel on the wireless settings on the router.
Check to make sure you are up to date with the firmware.
encryption and other security settings may also slow packets going wireless. Try without as a test
Leave R1 as is
Login to both R2 and R3 and disable DHCP
Do not use the WAN port of R2 and R3
R1 WAN port is to ISP
R1 port 1 goes to R2 port1 which leaves 3 ports open on R2 nothing plugged in to WAN
R1 port 2 goes to R3 port1 which...
