i8kfangui program and maybe rmclock might help as well. I believe you can undervolt your processor, which drastically lowers cpu temps.

Um when my laptop goes into hibernate I have to hit the power button to turn the laptop back on. Then I notice that if the screen is blank I just close the lid, open back up, and voila!

I don't think this will be any better than a regular s-video cable. If you had a high end LCD TV then maybe.
