i am new to the whole gaming scene, but i got call of duty 2 after seeing it for xbox360 to try. are the graphics supposed to be so... bad? ive got a 9860 3.0ghz, 1gb ram, and a 6800 256mb running forceware 79.31. even running at 800x600...
same deal as the sound drivers. "installs" but doesnt actually do anything as far as recognizing the device.
nevermind. busted xp install disc. now ive got a new problem... it wont recognize the sound or ethernet card. the chipset drivers were the first thing i installed so i dont know whats up. edit: got the LAN working, but cant figure...
ok, wth? i just tried reinstalling, but windows cant see the hard drive. i installed the promise ata driver and have my bios set to ata mode. whats going on?!! ive done this before, why is it giving me problems now?
do i need to load the promise ATA drivers from a floppy if im repairing my XP installation? i tried doing it from windows, but because ive messed with logonui and uxtheme (i think, it says something about corrupted kernel files) it wont...
Im having trouble running premiere pro on my 9600 (hypersonic). after the splash screen the program just quits out. could it be i need to update my video drivers?
where can i find out which will work with my drive? and are there any cheap alternatives? i cant justify to myself spending more than the 5 cents a disc ive been paying for the last 4 years...

Anyone know why i cant burn CDs any faster than 12x or DVDs more than 4x? isnt the burner supposed to be 24x/8x?
anyone suffering from EXTREMELY crappy external audio (mine hisses even when theres no sounds) should try rolling back their drivers to microsoft's uaa function driver for hd audio. still sounds horrible, but not quite as horrible.
