It turns out my sister in law has a Gateway that uses the same battery, so I was able to make sure the battery does take a charge. It does, so I just ordered a replacement system board on eBay. Thank you for the suggestion though.

 I was replacing the DC jack on a Gateway 6525GP and while doing so a couple of the inductors by the DC jack came loose from the motherboard. I re-soldered them to the motherboard and now the system board doesn't seem to be...
