Don't get the DVD Super drive, stick with the cheapest optical drive they offer, then get the NEC 6500A DVD-RW Double Layer on newegg for $109 shipped, then scrap the drive that it came with, that'll save you even more money.

I would get the cheapest ram available and transfer your money to get the highest cpu available. After that you can upgrade to 1GB PC3200 and even a 7,200rpm Hard drive and you would have a pretty nasty laptop.
