Have you tried reapplying thermal paste yet? If the problem still occurs then its probably a motherboard problem.
What upgrades have you done? CPU?
You should be able to go up to T2700
Are you using the stock Gateway driver? because it doesn't have dx10 in it. You would have to update the driver.
400Mhz FSB is your limit.
Best bet is to buy a Gateway replacement LCD panel but technically any 15.4" LCD panel will fit right in.
It has an ATI 200M video card so that is the one that will be limiting you the most. I do remember playing halo 1 on it before.

M2350 is an eMachines Celeron laptop. I've personally upgraded one of them over 512mb so that shouldn't be a problem. What RAM did you buy and where?
Make sure the inverter wires are fully connected. It may just be an inverter issue but you would have to test it to make sure.
