no need to kill the recovery partition. you can convert FAT to NTFS easily.
Then install your anti virus and anti spyware maybe a firewall.
Then run windows update.
You can install the latest video drivers, Omegas or modded...

2. You do not have to to a clean install to convert FAT32 to NTFS. At the command prompt type in: C:\> CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs
Do not unmount the partition. Select the option to convert to NTFS on the next start up.
