it cant be the codecs because a re-install of the audio drivers fixes the problem until you restart for the second time... Apparently, this is a "common" problem that other SoundMAX users have faced... Any other suggestions?

Yeah, it happens in all players... It doesn't happed for CDs and DVDs though...
