Don't bother with raid 1. Just back up any critical data on a regular basis. You can always reinstall OS and software if your drive dies.

Sounds like you are just hitting the power button without shutting down Windows.

You can do a source code audit on Firefox. You can't do this on Opera or IE. If you find a bug, you can patch it yourself or submit a bug report.
