I was wondering, could this phenomenon be caused by MS updates? I know the school network admins required everyone to apply security updates last Fall. Could those updates have changed some settings somewhere?
I built one for my daughter last summer. Pretty much standard hardware. It's running XP Pro and the standard software (Adobe, M$, university network client, Yahoo IM, ePrompter, etc) but no firewall or AF (not allowed on univ network)....

Just to close this out for anyone still watching. The problem was display drivers, I hadn't loaded any yet. It was just running on XPs built-in drivers. When I loaded those off the setup CD it worked fine. I then updated to the 77.72...
