got access to a desktop?
grab some deltas or vantec tornados
open up the bottom of the laptop
power the fans with the desktop
make a quick rig to hold them
have them blow up onto both heatsinks

if you can see text the backlight might be going. Hold it up to a bright light
if you can't see anything the inverter or video card might be bad or some part has to be reseated
hp parts in sagers? doesnt seem right
i dont think quantas and clevos are interchangeble
DONT give them the laptop
