Right now my desktop is pretty plain, just an application toolbar at the bottom and a nice Chocobo wallpaper.
Just wanted to spice it up a bit, maybe another application toolbar like OS X or stuff from gDesklets. Any suggestions?
I used to use ifconfig iwconfig dhcpcd
I figured a nice way to learn python was to write a script so I wouldn't have to type all those commands all the time. probably won't work with your laptop a la carte though.
I'm running an Inspiron 700m on Gentoo with extended 8-cell battery. I'm getting about 3 hours and 30 minutes of battery life.
My cpu is running at 600mhz on battery and 1.8ghz with adapter (I forget which governors I'm using..). I turn down the brightness all the way. Usually, I have heavy wireless activity (connected to a server) or am compiling source code, so I guess that's what makes the battery die so fast?
I'm just wondering how your guys...

I <3 Gentoo. The USE variable makes it easier for you to customize it, so it runs with little to no bloatware (since you decide what you want in it using the USE variable for make.conf).
A few weeks ago I was ready to emerge some dvd players and codecs and whatnot (following a gentoo tutorial), till I...
I've been thinking about getting an external LCD (Dell 2005FPW) for my laptop, but I'm still a little new to Linux and have no idea how to set up a good xorg.conf file.
Does anyone have any links to guides on how to set up an external monitor for your laptop? I've been googling around but haven't been able to find much. Any advice would be appreciated too, thanks.

Is there a way to turn off sleep mode for the keyboard?
AHH, I just wanted a good present not a bad keyboard... I tried googling for some fixes and some people said with work the keyboard can...

Yahoo + ICQ - why have many apps that do the same thing run at the same time? Get either Gaim...
Only use a few:
alias gnome-terminal="gnome-terinal --geometry 75x18"
alias mycpu='watch grep \"cpu MHz\" /proc/cpuinfo'
alias emerge="sudo emerge"
Besides that I use aliases for connection to a bunch of servers
alias servername="ssh -Yl username server@host"

I'm not a fan of the white keyboard either, but I do like the dark silver trim better than the 700m's white trim.
