I use the Zalman 5.1 for a year now, they still work without any probs, they have front/rear/center separate cables. Nice stuff in acceptable price. Check the review/pictures.
Check under the system startup what your pc loading (Start/Run/msconfig/startup tap). Maybe something is messy there. I suggest to disable them all and restart the system, then reinstall the OEM sound driver and the hotkeys...
Congrats! My favorite bench for CPU/GFX is 3DMark06, im sure you hear it before. Also check out Sisoft sandra to compare your chipset, memory, cpu etc.
