that sounds strange, i dont think that setup is working in dualchannel (arrangement of dimms.) change the arrangement of the chips and make a memory bandwidth benchmark in sandra... you will see the diff for sure.

Sounds like heat issues to me too, as Hammerhead said, It could be many things... Try to monitor the temps from the getthermal, update the gfx drivers, and download a tiny mem test software to test out the memory....
