the replacement arrived today. will be interesting(yes boring) to see how the temps differ.
whatever if the chip gets too hot then the motherboards thermal cutoff feature will do its thing. bursting into flames was.. as you know just a manner of speach... a notebook that sporadically switches itself off is not a good...

i'm using temperature monitor version 3.7. the specified upper limit for the cpu topside is listed as 79 degrees c. where does the program get this info? its own database or from the cpu?how acurate is it?
er, about 35degrees c.. just left it running. only loaded up doom3 to stress the internals. use the dell for gaming. Any sensible answers? please...
maybe a temperature comparison would be more helpful. could you post a few temperature readouts from your 12" 1ghz powerbooks..
