I don't understand why a higher max res is considered "better," especially for gaming. Most games look fine at 1280x960, so why the need for higher res especially when there is AA and such.

One thing you have to consider is that the native resolution (which you will be running most likely) will have tiny icons. My brothers got a UXGA and its a strain on the eyes.
