As far as I can tell, there are already a few models in the Aspire line that were realeased with 9700's. A few Canadians stores have them listed as in stock.

A crossover cable would be labelled MDI-X whereas a regular cable would be simply MDI. Cat-5 is the grade (quality) of the cable.

The CPU speed thing can be resolved in Windows. Go to Control Panel-->Power Options and set the Scheme to "Always On".
As fiction said. expect your battery life to go down when you do this.
As far a I know, the best sub-notebook you can get right now is a 12" Powerbook. That has a 32MB FX 5200Go.
Only problem after that is finding games that run on OSX.
Easy way to check would be to see what Widnows says your system memory is. If it's 64MB lower than the actual amount it should be, then the answer is there.
