What notebook/config is it? Mostly these days there is a driver for just about everything and using the ndis wrapper should be the last resort.

That's my problem with Gentoo. Sure it's neat that it compiles the ENTIRE os on the fly optimized for your system.. but fak.. I'll take the .5% efficiency hit and not take a week to fully install.
