Lots of good ideas.
My suggestion is USB Memory keys. Lots easier and much more universal than media cards. Every PC (well mostly) has a USB port.. not all of them have card readers.
I just ordered last night.
The only things I did different in my config versus what you have here is
WinXP Home -- I just couldn't justify the added $119 for XP Pro - especially when it really will not be a part of any network...
I just picked up a Dell Inspiron 700m for $955 shipped. Spent another 100 on a 1gig ram upgrade from Newegg. Small compact - perfect for just about everything but gaming.
It has it's advantages in a network. Some of the features you get with pro are very handy for sync'ing files to the network and what not.

Ordered
Final Specs:
Intel Pentium M 745 1.8ghz
256 Ram
40 Gig Harddrive
8X DVD Burner
Pro Wireless 2200
XP Home
2 Year Ext Warranty
2 Year Complete Care
Heading over to the Egg to order ram.
The more I play around with the config.. I can drop it down further by going to XP Home - and as much as I would like to have XP Pro I'm having a hard time coming up with any reason why I would need it on this system for what I intend to...
