for me windows media player was notorious for being buggy. try vlc, video lan. works just about everything

i second the previous post. a gig of ram off newegg can be had for 60-70 bucks these days depending on the type of ram you need. but if you dont feel like after-upgrading or the like, the 1300 is gonna be a better bet.
