The graphics card in the nw9440 is modular and completely removable. It's not a matter of it being possible to do it, it's a matter of me finding one with 512 mb.

I own the nw9440 and I briefly tried an asus w3j which has an x1600 and I can confirm that the 1500m destroys the x1600, it's not even close. However if you aren't into gaming or 3d work, stick with the x1600, it's a decent card.
