i still have my old dell inspiron 7500 from about 5-6 yrs ago. i gave it to my dad about a year ago and he's using it as the kitchen pc. when i had it, it was on 24x7. so, just to tell you that it doesn't hurt it.

i've got this phobia about opening my 9300 and voiding the warranty somehow. :P
for many of us, using a real phone has some advantages. i'd hate to haul my laptop around while talking to friends. heh

-most- of the time, the voip's call quality doesn't depend on the voip provider. (of course.. there are exceptions)
the real problem is either your upstream speed isn't sufficient or...
