We need some more info like budget, range of games you'll be playing, how much battery life you'll need, and so on.
Budget is the major issue as $2000 opens up many more choices than $1000 will get you.
Here's what I'd say:
1) Get the better screen (1680x1050) for +$50. It's worth it.
2) Drop the RAM back down to the bare minimum of 512MB. The $75 you spent upgrading from 512MB to 1GB is enough to buy a 1GB from Newegg giving 1.5GB!...
