Thanks Bullseye. That sounds like a great suggestion. Ultimately, however, the decision to void the warranty (its good for another 6 months) is up to my friend. Speaking of which, does switching out the HDD yourself void the warranty? It's a Best Buy geek squad one. But yeah, in either case I'll see if there are any programs that are keeping the HDD spinning. The rate of failure seems too great to be by chance. There aren't harddrives that are REALLY that bad, right?
