I know what you mean about checking the status. I go crazy with the tracking everytime I order a new computer, waiting for something new to show up on the status page.
Pop in the CD, restart the computer and when the blue Dell logo appears, hit the F12 key. It'll give you the option of where you want to bootup from. Pick the CD drive and it'll run from there. Hope that helps you out.
1. The 1.6 should be fine for normal use. You won't see that much of a difference going to 1.7 or 1.8. Since it's a 725 processor with the 400MHz bus, you can pin mod it. The 730 is the one with the 533 bus.

Eh...it's free. The cartridges they give you are "demo" cartridges and don't last very long. I'm pretty sure Lexmark makes the printers, but their cartridges won't work in the printer. I gave mine away.
With the budget you have, go for the 9300. You should be able to get a fully loaded 9300 for around your price with the 750 off coupon.
There's no way of knowing which screen you'll get, Dell puts on whatever they have on hand when...
I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but the i6000D doesn't have a secondary fan for the GPU, only one for the CPU. It's one of those extra things you get with the 9300/XPS2.
Mine also says the second fan isn't supported.
