dont know about him, but ubuntu still runs perfect over here with no issues at all really.
so that means we need to replace the heatsink with a 7800gtx one. more cooling and it will actually fit(hopefully). Edit, cu is better than al. i think the reason why they switched is because al is a lot lighter.

although the hardware isnt exactly the same, linux runs very well on my I9300.
I think it is related to the OS. In linux i get no noise, in xp i get it rarely and in vista it happens a LOT.
you can plug headphones in to get rid of the noise.
