475 core is seriously pushing it. You're gonna end up frying the thing, and you can't get a replacement anymore, so I wouldn't risk it. 450 is the MAX I would go, and that would just be for trying some benchmarks, I wouldn't dare playing...
The Atheros update doesn't work for me either. Just don't install it, works fine with the old one.

Most machines have an S-video line-out these days. You can connect that directly to a TV S-video line in.

You'll have to experiment with different ones to find which is really the best for you specifically, but I recommend starting with the official NVIDIA releases, such as 71.84 or 67.66. I actually get the best benchmarks with 67.03 but...
